There are several different types of dog behavior problems that exist out there and you are not alone if you’re a dog owner who finds yourself facing one or more of them. You have taken the first step to getting help with your problem by getting more information.
Some people become so frustrated with their dog problems that they see no other option but to get rid of their dog. For this reason, many dogs and puppies are given away. Sometimes it comes from a lack of knowledge in the area of dog behavior which is sad for dog and owner.
Some examples of problems with dog behavior include:
· Excessive barking
· Howling, growling and whining inappropriately
· Wetting the house or upon seeing people
· Chewing indoors or out
· Digging holes in the yard
· Digging under the fencing
· Escaping from yard or fence (or house when a door is opened)
· Nipping or biting
· Aggression towards humans
· Aggression towards dogs
· Aggression towards other animals
Each of these behavior problems in dogs can have multiple reasons for why they take place. You won’t be able to resolve the problem until you discover the root cause in your dog.
You should first rule out any health or physical problems that could be contributing to your dog’s problems. It’s important that next you make sure all of your dog’s needs are being met. Then look at how serious the problem is and when it started. Has your dog had this problem since you’ve had him or did it develop over time or manifest after a particular event?
It’s possible that as the owner, you’re doing things that are affecting your dog’s behavior and you don’t even know it. There’s no reason to be ashamed of this as many people don’t know any better. Instead, you want to learn about what you could be doing wrong and how it’s affecting your dog so that you know what you can do about it.
If you can’t solve your dog’s problems, there are some resources available to you. You can try self-help programs at home or attend a dog training class. You can hire a private dog trainer to come to your home and work with you and your dog to improve the situation and there are even dog behavior training camps you can send your dog away to. With so many different help options available to you, it just makes sense to get the help you need for your sake and your dog’s.
Learning how to correct these dog problems will improve the quality of life for your dog as well. Your domesticated dogs will still need discipline. They need rules and boundaries. Your dog would then be free to roam and do whatever they want which isn’t good for them. Dogs need some type of structure to their lives and this is what you’re providing when you teach them rules and discipline.
