Don’t get too excited with Fido as soon as you get home from the pet store it’s best to save the neat dog tricks until after you complete a little basic dog obedience training.  Just as a child has to learn new words and a whole new vocabulary, start with simple one word commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘heel’.By teaching the basics before complex commands, the dog will understand how to obey you better and may form a relationship with you.Relatively quickly your dog will obey your basic commands through instinct.

Don’t overwhelm your new puppy with too many commands and techniques that feel like he’s first year in a Masters Degree program.Attempt to gain the puppy’s trust as a good master, not as a professor who could care less about his student’s sufferings.  Use lots of love and rewards when your dog completes some obedience training.  This will keep him coming back for more and seeing it as enjoyment, and not stage fright to perform that cool new ‘shake the paw trick’ you want to show off to your friends. 

The reward method is widely used as well as the leash and collar training methods.A dog may learn faster when given treats and food, but in the long run this may not be the most effective method to train a dog.For example, if a dog comes to expect a chewy bone after every ‘sit’ command, he may never gain the instinct to perform this task, when necessary, without reward.

As a result, some believe that requiring military-style obedience without rewards outweighs the initial easiness of “bribing” a dog to perform tricks.  While the food reward method may work for some, the leash method seeks to teach the animal whose boss and better adapts to the final goal of dog obedience training, laying the foundation for new and exciting tricks for your dog to perform

However, dog owners who choose the leash method should keep in mind that it is very difficult to instill properly.Keep in mind that the ultimate goal of training is to have the dog always obey with or without punishment or reward.The goal sets out your objective to have your dog obey, and when the dog is aware of this he will enter into a better bond with you.

Whatever method you choose, dog obedience training ensures the dog executes your commands positively rather than running rampant with no routine training.Therefore, as a result of basic dog obedience training you will have a behaved dog, an object that you can love as a best friend, and an entertainer for all of your friends.
